calmbirth® classes – subsidised!

Calmbirth runs classes for Te Whatu Ora | Te Toka Tumai Auckland City Hospital at a considerably reduced cost to you.  Classes are in-person over a weekend (12 hours) and Monday evenings via Zoom.  We are very happy to offer this fantastic opportunity (usually costs $495).  Book now, places are limited

From September 2020 to June 2021 calmbirth® previously ran classes for Auckland
District Health Board (as it was named then) at no cost for participants. This successful pilot project was part of an initiative to create opportunities for normal birth at Auckland City Hospital.

What is calmbirth®?

calmbirth® connects the psychology and physiology of birth to
provide you with effective tools to create your own positive labour
and birth experience. You will be equipped with techniques such as
relaxation, breathing, visualisation, and massage. These will help
you to stay calm during your labour and birth.

Do I meet the criteria?

  • I live in the Te Toka Tumai catchment area
  • I have chosen to birth my baby at Auckland City Hospital
  • I am committed to completing the 12 hour course and practising the techniques
    (important for maximising effectiveness)
  • I agree to take part in the online evaluation and am happy to be contacted after
    birth to share feedback on my experience (this will just be a very small random sample)

Anyone birthing at Auckland City Hospital can register their interest.
Priority will be given to:

  • women having their first baby and planning a normal birth or planning a normal birth after caesarean;

  • women who are particularly anxious about labour and birth;

  • women who are engaged in Te Toka Tumai’s Pregnancy and Parenting programme.

When are the classes?

Classes happen each month and registrations are open now!

When should I attend?

You can register any time, but the best time to attend classes is around 32 to 34 weeks into pregnancy,

and after a Te Toka Tumai early pregnancy and/or advanced pregnancy class.

Where can I register?
